HEXONET Activating 2-Factor Authentication on February 1, 2016
What is it 2-Factor Authentication (2FA)?
2FA is a highly secure method of authenticating account holders since it requires a two step verification process to login. Once 2FA is activated for your account, you will be required to provide your normal password, as well as, an automatic and changing generated code from a smartphone application at login. The auto-generated code is obtained using any of the approved 2FA smartphone applications (listed below). Again, to access your account, users will need to (1) know their username/password and (2) have access to their smartphone to obtain the secondary auto-generated code.
- The benefits. 2FA provides a higher level of protection for your HEXONET account and the data held within it by reducing the risk of an intruder or attacker gaining access.
- I already have a Passphrase - do I need 2FA as well? 2FA is a more secure since it requires the use of an additional device and randomly generated code for access. For those that still wish to use the less secure Username and Passphrase system, they can opt-out of 2FA.
- How to activate and use 2FA? Simply install one of the listed smartphone applications below, log into the Control Panel and then enable 2FA following the instructions on connecting HEXONET's login with one of the smartphone applications. Once you have enabled 2FA for your account, you will be required to have both your regular password and the code generated by the 2FA smartphone application in order to log into your HEXONET Account.
- Recommended Mobile Phone Apps, that support 2FA:
- Google Authenticator
- FreeOTP
The 2FA configuration in the Control Panel is located at "Manage Account > My Account > Access Control > 2 FA". Here you will find detailed instructions on how to enable 2FA. Please read the instructions carefully and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
